Students interested in ocean energy can attend international conference at no cost and be eligible for $200 toward classroom supplies
AUGUSTA - Teams comprised of a teacher and two high school students, who are interested in ocean energy as a renewable energy source, are invited to register for the upcoming international EnergyOcean Conference held at the Samoset Resort, Rockland in June. To encourage the study of Maine’s ocean energy potential, the Environmental and Energy Technology Council of Maine (E2Tech) is offering complimentary registrations and travel reimbursement for a limited number of Teams.

"We want to remove obstacles that teachers and students may face when it comes to the cost of attending this international conference," said Jim Atwell, E2Tech board president. “In addition to networking with technologists, financiers and policy makers, this is an opportunity for our own high school students to learn about Maine’s ocean energy assets. This is too good to pass by."

According to Atwell, Teams that register before June 3 will receive free admission to the conference on June 18. Reimbursement for travel expenses is also available. And, if Teams commit to a submitting a post-conference report, they are immediately eligible for a $200 award for classroom supplies.

"This is our chance to connect students with the opportunities here in Maine," said John Richardson, Commissioner of Maine Department of Economic and Community Development, who also underscored the Gulf of Maine as a world-class wind power resource. "These Teams of high school students represent the future of our highly-skilled and productive workforce."
